NY Knit Out

Hi guys

I was at the Knit Out from 1 PM to 5:15. Phew. The was never ending of folk wanting to learn how to knit and across the way was an equally long line waiting to learn how to crochet.
Oh and as I was leaving one of the organizers told me that I was the first male teacher!!!!!!!!
Then I went to Boys Night at The Point as usual on a Sunday evening. A fun long day knitting for me.
Tomorrow I start my first Knitting afterschool class!
 I love knitting

Men's Knitting Circle in Philadelphia

On Tuesday, September 27th, the first Men's Knitting Circle kicked off in Philadelphia.  Eight male knitters attended, some I knew, some I did not.  It went over well and we are meeting again the last Tuesday of October (the 25th).  Plenty of creativity in the bunch.

I followed advice for various people and advertised it and talked it up in Philadelphia and various websites.  MenWhoKnit and PhillyKnitters as two, the local yarn shoppes, the PGN, various stores.

Interesting note is that the owner of establishment told me that several women asked if they could attend, and he explained that it was for the guys and that they could start one on another evening.  No disrespect to the ladies but the idea is for the fellas to have a place to sit, knit and enjoy each others company and share the male focused creative process.

The tie is complete

My knit tie is complete.  I'm a little disappointed by it.  It looks great, but the sock yarn I used is too thick, so the knot is huge.  I can't use it for work, but my daughter has already claimed it, so it won't go unused.  I've already found some really fine silk-tweed that would make a great tie.  I'll have to drop down from size 5 needles to 1 or 2's.

Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let folks know that the Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival is scheduled for October 1 and 2 at the Champlain Valley Exposition Center in Essex Junction, VT.  Admission is $5 (what a deal!).  The flyer says over 60 vendors with everything from yarn, fleece, spinning, meat and cheese (ok, it's creepy to think of eating the poor animal that gives us beautiful yarn).  More info at www.vermontsheep.org and click on the Festival button on the left.  I've never been to this Fest as I'm new to Vermont but anything with yarn has to be fun.  Plus, there's shearing demonstrations and sheepdog herding.

New York Knitting Cruise

Hello everyone!

Is anyone else going on the knitting cruise in New York sponsored by The Point Cafe? It seems like it would be a great opportunity to meet and put a face with an online identity....

I will be there with my wonderful friend, Robin.

Also, I spent the weekend at the Garden State Sheep and Fiber Festival and accidentally added a new obsession... spinning.... Had a great time and learned a lot - all the information and hands on experience really enhances my knitting experience.

Sock class!

Thank you for all the input. The class was frustrating to say the least. I stood up in the middle of class and reminded them all you could buy the socks at shops all over the city and it would be so much less work. LOL Everyone laughed and we went on. I got home last night and became obsessed....I switched from 3 needles to 4 and that was the ticket for me....my hands are bigger than theirs and the four needles gave me more flexiblity. Those little women have small paws!!! Anyway....so far, I am flying on them! Yeah!

BTW, did anybody Tivo the new Martha yesterday??? They had a lady that is the fastest crocheter in the world.....she does 130 double crochets in 3 minutes.....it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I got a little motion sickness watching her.....

Socks, sock and more socks!!!

Hey guys,

I'm taking a cashmere sock class this afternoon! I'm a little nervous....do socks (or double pointed needles) scare anyone else??? Anyway I will report on how it goes and if I will be a sock maker or not!!! If any of you are sock pros I would love to have some feedback.

Happy knitting everyone!

I want to be certified

As a knitting instructor after having completed a w/e course @ F.I.T. I have to do 30 hours voluntary teaching to be fully certified

I'll clock in a few hours at the Knit Out in Union Square next month.
The instructor was great, Arnetta Kenney. Yes, I was the only guy!
I'm going to sign up for a 6 week course with Arnetta to knit that sweater I've put off making for lack of confidence.
