My sock yarn

The sock yarn i bought today is called  Sockotta,  its from plymouth their italian collection.  its 45%cotton, 40% superwash wool and 15% nylon.  It looks like colored kite string not yarn.  Ive hear comments of socks knitting up quickly.  Right,  its going to take weeks to make a pair of socks.  I hope there is enough. I got 414 yards.  looks to be enough.  the swatch looks great, the colors are wonderful.  I hope the socks look as good.

Casting On

I learned to cast on using the long tail method (needle through loop on left thumb, wrap yarn, lift loop over needle), however I've never cared for the edge it creates on a ribbed piece such as a hat, sock or cuff.  I've spent some time trying to learn other methods of casting on but haven't found any good discussion of when to choose which one, and none of my swatches seems clearly superior to the others.  Which method do you prefer for a visible ribbed edge that is stretchy but not too loose and has a nice appearance and feel.  Or is the secret not in the method of casting on but rather in using a different size needle or in working the first round a certain way?

socks oh boy

My addi turbos arrived today, so i started my make socks on two circular needles.  It is very interesting working on the leg now.  cant wait to try them on and show them.   I sure like these addis,  the pliable cable for sure.  very slick, i drop alot of stitches,  they will take some getting use too.  ive been using bamboo for so long.  although i did like the bamboo i didnt like the cable, it was all coiled up even with steam they didnt relax that much.  Any way im using caron simply soft for the socks,  Is this the right type of yarn fo

howdy

well, it took me long enough to get about posting something.  this is just a brief intro and "howdy".  i found the website after a google search and thought i'd sign up.  i'm an intermittant knitter that started about 5 months ago to stop smoking.  it's helped a little but i can't knit and drive at the same time so........

i get most of my knitting done at work while i'm waiting on a reaction to incubate or while i'm on my lunch/dinner break.

current WIP: one of those Doctor-Who style scarves.   i had some ambitions for this thing but the yarn is this acrylicy stuff (*first time i've used a 100% synthetic) that i've developed a love-hate relationship with.  it is squeaky and seems to bite the needles.....and it is soooo slow.  i ditched the idea of doing the scarf in a honeycomb pattern and went with a simple garter stitch.  the yarn is pretty, tho.  and cheap (*$1.87/skein).   at the rate i'm going, it'll be finished by mid summer (*gawd, i hope i'm just kidding!*)

The New "Guy"

I just found this site from the MenKnit.Net web site and knew I had to join. I have been knitting, on and off, for nearly 20 years.

I love the camaraderie of knitters. The knitting circles of my LYS was always one of the things I liked best about being a knitter. I am a member of the Buffalo Knitters Guild, the only man of course, so all the ladies love having me in the group. But it is nice to be with a grou of guys who are knitters.

My latest knitting obssesion are the scarves from the Harry Potter movies. I've made them all and they are my mindless-while-I-watch-television-knitting projects.

Stitchcraft

Hi guys,

Did any of you catch the knitting program on Oxygen? The first one was March 5th @ 3pm. It does not seem to be airing any more. Lily Chin was the host & part of it was shot @ The Point in Greenwich Village. It was featuring Knit:1 magazine, Vogue............. Can it have folded already?

Hats off!!!

These are most of the hats that I've been churning out in the past few weeks.  Most use the Reynolds Lopi.   The small ones are going to be gifts for my newest grand neice who is due next month.  The purple and green striped one is the "umbilical cord" hat from the Stitch N Bitch book, and the furry blue one was just my own "let's see what happens when I do this" design.  A couple will be just for me, and I will send a couple of them for the Dulaan project.  I think the green one in the back might be what Mel used for his Dulaan hat and I agree, it does look like ass on it's own.  I like the way the blue one on top almost looks like faded denim.

Round Loom Knitting

Just curious if there is anyone else that has done or who is doing round loom knitting?  I'm working on a 3 panel blanket and have been enjoying it.  I want to work on a sweater but don't understand regular patterns, let alone the patterns for the round loom.  I found a website that shows a lot of styles of knitting that you can do with the loom, such as cable, stocking, etc.  The greatest thing about round loom knitting is you get very fast results in a short period of time.  Great for beginners that may want to move on to needles and hooks!
