I started a hat. And I got bored with it. And I decided I wasn't going to make it the way I originally thought, and for the person I originally intended. But I figured I *had* to finish it, and since I was more or less making up my own pattern (gulp!), I had no idea it would be so hard to decrease a ribbed hat. This was my first project knitting in the round, and I used both circular needles and double-pointed needles.
Last night my partner and I went to the Sydney Opera House to see the US singer Dianne Reeves in a tribute to Sarah Vaughan. As well as her own trio of musicians, she was accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. What a fabulous night. She sang in the film "Good Night, and Good Luck" which I didn't see.
I am going to start a Faroese shawl and wonder if anyone knows of a site that has simple lace patterns in garter stitch. Or do you have a pattern you could share with me. Thanks
well - a while back I joined the yahoo group for the Mystery Stole #2 from Melanie at PinkLemonTwist. (she also wrote the pattern for Leda's Dream that I finished recently - well, my version of it anyway)
As usual I used a different yarn and a different sized needle - so I truncated the pattern by about 150 rows or so. 8 foot long is really sufficient.
since I really can't call the result 'Scheherazade' since it it only BASED on 'Scheherazade', I'm calling it Aladdin's Carpet.
I used US #8 needles (5mm) and jaggerspun heather 2/8 yarn in 'burgandy'. will try for some pictures tonight or tomorrow. Got to get it blocked as it is a wedding gift for Saturday morning. (Not that I work under pressure or cut deadlines close!)
Wendy's DVD Real Men Knit is out! You can buy it and see more than one of the guys on this site! I'm the one on the bottom row in the yellow sweater. :)
I just looked in the chat room & was verbally abused by one of our members, this is not the kind of thing that I expect from our group.
Amazon.com introduced a new function this morning. It allows you to create your own personal store.
I've created one called "Scratch and Stitch" which features knitting books of interest to men. I've added a few that have been mentioned on MenWhoKnit.com as well as some that I've found useful.
Does anyone have the DVD by Knittinghelp.com? I am always searching for new ways to up-skill my knitting. We don't have any knitting classes here and the selection of knitting books is poor. I thought that this DVD might be useful. Any comments or suggestions for other DVD's?
PS...this is the hat, it's pretty cool and very easy! I love it!
Now, I know that I can probably find this online in 6.5 seconds, and I just might as soon as I am done posting this entry. However, the hat that I just finished instructs me to "single crochet" around the edge in a contrasting color...now I have the contrasting color, and UPS is bringing me a big box of knitting supplies (and crochet hooks) this afternoon...but can anyone tell me (or direct me towards an priceless resource that can tell me) how I might go about this "single crochet"? Clearly I am a crochet virgin! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
