Ok Chris, I did it, I joined!

Hi guys,

My name's Ken and my partner Mark and I live up in Maine, just outside of Bangor.  As a bit of an introduction...I started knitting back in September of 2005 and have been enjoying doing so ever since.  My favorite thing to knit, so far anyway, is socks.  I've also done some hats, scarves, a few knitted toys and I'm currently tackling the faux bear skin rug that was featured in the men's issue of Knit1.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it when it's done, but I just felt the need to take on the challenge of making such an unusual project...so far, so good.  Well, I guess that's it for now.  Thanks Chris for oh so politely reminding me to get it together and join the site.  And thanks to all of you who took the time to visit my blog (http://alterknituniverse.blogspot.com/) today.  I wondered why I was getting so many hits...

Overdyeing Yarn

I recently made a trip to the Goodwill in search of sweaters to recycle and it was an excellent day for hunting.  I purchased three sweaters and a vest, all 100% 2-ply cashmere.  I knew I was taking a chance on the vest because it had buttons down the front, so if anything, the back would be the only useable portion.  But the yarn was so loosely spun that I couldn't unravel it without the yarn constantly breaking.  I gave up.  It was really soft, so I was a bit disappointed, but it cost next to nothing and I ended up with 6 vintage mother of pearl button, so it wasn't a total loss.

Recruiting Effort

Hey Boys,

I have been trying to get Ken in Maine to join the group for weeks now.  He's been thinking about it but never gets around to it.  (like me finishing that 3yo sweater).

My proposal is that those who want to, visit his blog http://alterknituniverse.blogspot.com/  leave a comment and casually invite him.  He really would be a good member to have around.

(this sounds like rush week)
