Santa Lucia Tree Topper

When Ron and I were putting up our Christmas tree this year, we realized that we didn't have a tree topper for it. I was thinking of going to buy one, but had just received my copy of Alan Dart's "Irresistible Gifts To Knit." In this collection of patterns was one for Santa Lucia/Saint Lucy. She is apparently celebrated in Sweden around the winter solstice as the Queen of Light. So I decided to make her as something nice we'd be able to take out each Christmas, as an alternative to the traditional Angel. I'm really pleased with how she turned out!

Thanks for the nice compliments, guys! I found the pattern to be very straightforward and easy to follow. Keep in mind that there are a lot of pieces to make and therefore a lot of piecing together. But I wouldn't let that scare you off. Probably the easiest method for this kind of project is to piece together as you go. I didn't do that and ended up with parts and parts and parts that all had to be assembled. If I make another one, I'll put it all together as I go which won't leave for such a huge amount of busy work at the end.

I crocheted a whole set of angels for friends one year...Mike loves to decorate for the Holidays and especially asked for them to hang on the tree after I gave a freestanding one to his wife, Jeanie. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
