I saw a sweather the other day that caught my eye and I was wondering if anyone has a source for self striping yarn in rainbow colors. My husband would truly love one.
I bought a skein of Rainbow color-way worsted weight from Lorna's Laces when the Men's Mid-West Knitting Retreat visited her studio. A great color-way and super soft. No idea what I'm going to make with it, but I love it!
Off the top of my head I know that Lorna's Laces and Mini Mochi both have rainbow colorways. Also, if you were to contact an independent dyer, like Ray Whiting, you could probably have a rainbow colorway custom dyed just for you.
Mountain Colors, in Montana, has some sock yarn that is very rainbow colored. They also do heavier weight yarns so you might wish to check their website and see what is available. Great quality yarn that is a delight to knit with. Lots of luck looking; sounds like a wonderful project. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Aran or sockweight. The Aran knits on an 8 or 9...pretty quick, and feels fantastic: Wonderful hand.
