I finished a square shawl with some Bluefaced Leciester 2/8 from The Fleece Artist in Nova Scotia in the colourway "Victoria". I used 4.5 mm needles. It is knitted plain as I wanted the colour to take priority but did put in rounds of "YO K2TOG" every tenth round to keep me from dozing. I finished it up with a sideways border in garter stitch (8 stitches - k4, yo, k2tog, k2 every row but joining the eighth stitch to the shawl every other row). I scalloped the edge during blocking. It measures 60 inches square and is quite warm. I intend to give it to one of my nieces.

Especially fond of the scalloped edge and how beautifully the different "ingredients" (yarn, colour, patterns, shape) work together. Your niece will love it - I hope you you post a photo of her wearing it!

More importantly, can I have the sofa instead of Rob? And the shawl... very beautiful. I've done blankets in the round and I love doing them like this. Your colors are beautiful and you did a wonderful job on this project. I've never even tried scalloping - how do you do it?
When you block the shawl
When you block the shawl just pin it out that way. That's the way it stays. As for the sofa - when I bought a condo in Canada about 5 years ago, I went to an auction with some friends. A lady and I were the only ones bidding on the sofa and she quit at l0 dollars so I got it for l5 dollars. Just the way it is.

Very lovely, Ron. I like these fairly simple shawls as they are great gifts and have a quiet elegance to them. I should try that edging sometime. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
