I finally finished this sweater. I started this cotton aran sweater last year in September and then put it down to finish a couple of other sweaters for gifts. I picked it up in May and finished it soon after Labor day. I decided to put a zipper in it which i think is easier than buttons. Then because it is cotton i put bias tape along the shoulders and neck for support. After it was all done the neck was way too big so i removed the collar and closed the shoulder seams more and re knitted the neck again and re attached the bias tape. It was all worth it as it fits perfectly now.
I love it.

Steve hsfg has corrected me
Steve hsfg has corrected me about bias tape. It does have stretch and movement. What i used must be seam tape. It is also cut on the bias but is more stable.

To answer purlyman, bias tape is basically a piece of fabric that has been cut on the diagonal which makes it not stretch. It comes in different widths and is sold in most sewing shops. Normally it is used to cover seams or edges of fabric. In this case it give great stability to the shoulders of the sweater which in cotton can stretch to the point they don't look good.

Awesome!

Great job, especially to have knit in cotton- I imagine that cotton is more challenging than wool!

That's great!! The patterns are amazing and I love the idea of a zipper up the front. You did a beautiful job. I haven't ever used or even really heard of bias tape. I'm sure I can just google it to find out more. Have fun wearing your beautiful sweater!!!
