...but every time I hear or read of knitting being classed as a "hobby" it strikes a nerve harder than Sr. Mary Fasulo in the fourth grade with the narrow edge of a yardstick.

Maybe it's because knitting is so engrained and is such a part of my life that...well, even growing up, it was so much a part of me that a "hobby" was my stamp collection or something.

I don't know...it just irks me...

Thoughts?

Many artists have needed to defend their claim that what they did, no matter how difficult to explain, was ART...accident awards, insurance coverage, identity and intellectual property issues. Even the IRS has bowed to performance art, juggling, water and environmental pieces, body adornment and other creative endeavors. It is what we call it, what it is known by, what it's name is, what it calls itself, how others describe it and what it is...so, tell the story.

The word hobby is a legal definition for courts...and judges, lawyers and artists stretch that definition almost daily.
