Needles Required: 1 pair of 3mm (UK 11) knitting needles.

Tension: 28 sts and 36 rows to measure 10cm (4in) worked over st st using 3mm needles.

BODY

Back

Using Snow, cast on 14 sts and st st 2 rows.
Next Row: Inc into every st – 28 sts.
P 1 row
Next Row: *K1, inc, rep from * to end – 42 sts.
P 1 row
Next Row: *K2, inc, rep from * to end – 56 sts.

Beg with a P row st st 31 rows.

Shape Body

Next Row: *K6, K2tog, rep from * to end – 49 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 7 rows.

Next Row: *K5, K2tog, rep from * to end – 42 sts.

Using Snow, cast on 48 sts for sole edge and st st 4 rows.

Shape Foot
Dec 1 st at each end of next 4 rows – 40 sts.
Now cast off 4 sts at beg of next 6 rows – 16 sts.

Shape Ankle
Next Row: *K1, K2tog, K1, rep from * to end – 12 sts.
P 1 row.
Cast off.

Soles (Make 2)

Using Hay, cast on 4 sts for front edge and st st 2 rows.
Inc 1 st at each end of next and every row until there are 12 sts.
St st 20 rows straight.
Then dec 1 st at each end of next and every row until 6 sts rem.
P 1 row.
Cast off for back edge.

Head

Using Snow, cast on36 sts for neck edge and P 1 row.
Next Row: *K1, inc, K1, rep from * to end – 48 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 3 rows.

Inc 1 st at each end of next and every row until there are 60 sts.
St st 4 rows. Mark each end of last row with a coloured thread.

Shape sides of head

Dec 1 st at each end of next and every row until 32 sts rem.
Next Row: *K1, K2tog, K1, rep from * to end – 24 sts.
Next Row: Purl.

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows – 12 sts. Break off Snow and join on Hay for head gusset.

Working on the rem 12 sts, st st 12 rows.

Next Row: dec 1 st at each end
Beg with a P row st st 3 rows.

Rep the lst 4 rows 4 times more – 2 sts rem.
Cast off.

EARS

Outer Ear (Make 2)
Using Snow, cast on 12 sts for base edge and st st 6 rows.
Next Row: *K1, inc, rep from * to end – 18 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 15 rows.

Shape top of ear

Next Row: dec 1 st at each end.
Beg with a P row st st 5 rows.

Rep the last 6 rows 5 times more, then the 1st row once more – 4 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 3 rows.
Cast off.

Inner Ear (Make 2)

Work excatly as given for Outer Ears using Hay throughtout instead of Snow.

Nose

Using Hessian, cast on 7 sts for top edge and P 1 row.
Dec 1 st at each end on next 2 rows – 3 sts.
Next Row: K3tog – 1 st. Break off yarn leaving an end, thread through rem st, pull up tightly and fasten off neatly.

Eyes (Make 2)

Using Hessian, cast on 10 sts and st st 4 rows.
Next Row: *K2tog, rep from * to end – 5 sts. Break off yarn leaving an end, thread through rem sts, pull up tightly and fasten off neatly.

Tail

Using Snow, cast on 10 sts and P 1 row.
Next Row: inc into every st – 20 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 9 rows.
Next Row: *K2tog, rep from * to end – 10 sts. Break off yarn leaving an end, thread through rem sts, pull up tightly and fasten off neatly.

Cardigan

Using Tea Rose cast on 84 sts and K 4 rows.

Next Row: Knit.
Next Row: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3.

Rep the last 2 rows 3 times more.

Shape Body

Next Row: K3, *K6, K2tog, rep from * to last 9 sts, K9 – 75 sts.
Next Row: K3, P to last 3 sts, K.
Next Row: Knit.
Rep the last 2 rows twice more, then the 1st row once more.
Next Row: K3, *K5, K2tog, rep from * to last 9 sts, K9 – 66 sts.
Next Row: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3.
Next Row: Knit.
Rep the last 2 rows once more, then the 1st row once more.

Next Row: K3, *K4, K2tog, rep from * to last 3 st, K3 – 56 sts.
Next Row: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3.

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 17 sts.

BASKET
Note: All piece of the basket are worked using one strand of Hay and one strand of Hessian held togther.

Side Piece

Using both yarns held together, cast on 38 sts and st st 10 rows.
Next 3 Rows: Knit.
Cast off for top edge.

Base

Using both yarns held together, cast on 35 sts
Next Row: *K3, K2tog, rep from * to end – 28 sts.
P 1 row.
Next Row: *K2, K2tog, rep from * to end – 21 sts.
P 1 row.
Next Row: *K1, K2tog, rep from * to end – 14 sts.
P 1 row.
Next Row: *K2tog, rep from * to end – 7 sts. Break off yarn leaving an end, thread through rem sts, pull up tightly and fasten off neatly.

Handle

Using both yarns held together, cast on 24 sts and K 1 row. Cast off Knitwise.

Boquet

Paper Wrapper
Note: Hyacinth is used doubled.

Using Snow, cast on 30 sts and st st 3 rows beg with a P row. Break off Snow and join on two strands of Hyacinth.
Next Row: Knit to form hem line. Break off both strands of Hyacinth and Join on Snow and st st 6 rows.

Next Row: *K1, K2tog, K2, rep from * to end – 24 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 7 rows.
Next Row: *K1, K2tog, K1, rep from * to end – 18 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 5 rows.

Next Row: *K1, K2tog, rep from * to end – 12 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 3 rows.

Next Row: *K2tog, rep from * to end – 6 sts.
Beg with a P row st st 5 rows. Break off yarn, leaving an end, thread through rem sts, pull up tightly and fasten off neatly.

Daffodills (Make 11)

Using Gilt, cast on 12 sts LOOSELY.
Next Row: *K2tog, rep from * to end – 6 sts. Break off yarn leaving an end, thread through rem sts, pull up tightly and fasten off neatly.

To Make Up

Body – With ws of both body parts outside, join row ends together leaving cast on and cast off edges open. Turn rs out and tuff firmly. Gather around cast on sts, pull up tightly and fasten off securely.

Feet – Join row ends of uppers leaving cast off edge open. Pin soles to uppers matching fronts and backs. Sew as pinned. Turn rs out and stuff firmly. Sew across cast off edges. Pin the feet at lower edge of body as illustrated, then sew as pinned.

Head – Join row ends og gusset to row ends of head to coloured markers. Join row ends from coloured markers to cast on edge, turn rs out and stuff firmly. Make indentations on head either side of head gusset, using the picture as a guide use pins to mark the indentations before you begin. Using a length of Hay work a stitch through the knitted stitches and through the stuffing, pull up tightly until you get the desired indentations, when your happy with the look fasten off neatly and securely.

Attach head to body – Making sure that head seam runs down centre front of body. Pin cast on edge of head onto cast off edge of body. Sew as pinned adding more stuffing as you go if required.

Ears – With ws outside, place one inner and one outer ear together matching cast on and cast off edges together. Join row ends togther leaving cast on edge open. Turn right side out. Sew across cast on edge. Fold cast on edges in halfand join row ends from cast on edge to the inc row on ear (about 1.5cm). pin cast on edge of each ear to the sides of head gusset as illustrated. Sew as pinned.

Nose – Pin bottom of nose to the last row of head gusset as illustrated, then sew as pinned.

Mouth – Using a length of Hessian work a small vertical stitch from bottom of nose to 5 rows below. Then work two small horizontal lines for mouth, work the stitches over 2 clear knitted stitches.

Eyes – Join row ends, turn rs out and stuff firmly, gather around cast on sts and pull up tightly and fasten off securely. Pin eye’s into the indentations sew as pinned. Using a length of Snow work a tiny stitch on each eye to form a small glaze.
Tail – Noting that P side is rs. Join row ends, turn rs out and stuff firmly. Gather around cast on edge, pull up tightly and fasten off. Pin tail to base of body back. Sew as pinned using illustration as a guide.

Cardigan – Pin cast off edges of cardigan around neck edge where the head and body join. Sew as pinned.

Arms – Join row ends as far as coloured markers. Turn rs out and stuff firmly omitting the thumb. Pin sleeve head onto body using the illustation as a guide. Sew as pinned making sure that you sew through the cardigan and the body at the same time, easing more stuffing in as you go if required.

Basket – Noting that P side of work is rs. Join row ends of side piece. Join row ends of base section. Turn rs out. Sew cast on edge of base section to cast on edge of side piece. Sew row ends of handle to top egde of basket, then sew to right hand as illustrated. Fill with your favourite sweets if desired.

Boquet – Join row ends of paper wrapper. Fold hemline to the ws of work and slip stitch into place. Turn rs out and stuff lightly. Join row ends of top piece. Turn rs out. Sew cast on edge to cast on edge of paper wrapper so it sits just inside. Join row ends of each daffadill, then sew eight around the edges of top piece then three in centre. Using orange sewing thread sew a small orange bead into the centre of each daffadills. Using a length of Avocado make the leaves by working several loops inbetween the daffodills. Attach boquet in the crease of left elbow.
