Yesterday a new way to block hats occurred to me, and since it worked I thought I'd share it with you. (A new way to me, that is - others may have had the same idea, of course!)
Considering the shape of hats I never liked blocking them flat, and now I had an idea I'd try a balloon; that way it would be possible to get exactly the size I wanted too. It worked! A lamp turned out to be the perfect place to put it to keep the whole thing upright and in place until the hat was dry. (A bonus thing is that I actually had two new hats that needed blocking, and thanks to the "balloon method" they have the same circumference.)
I hope somebody wants to try it - I'm curious what others think of it and how it turns out!

I usually just roll up a towel and pull up the center of the roll until I get the desired shape, and then stand the roll on end, but this is clever, too. A local yarn store owner who makes hats for sale during slow times hangs balloons from the ceiling with her hats on them for a display. Very brilliant idea, I thought.

Great idea. I usually balance a bowl upside down over a glass to block hats. This usually works fine but I like your idea even better. Beautiful hat! John

Thanks for your comments, guys!
Albert: yes, it's my own design - I'm using leftovers to toy with different ways to combine stripes and a spiral. I've got enough yarn for one more hat, so next project will be a similar hat. I just have to make up my mind which of my ideas to use.
Great job on the hat. I

Awesome!
