I'm visiting NYC in september/october and I'm looking for places where the knitting guys go out and buy ther yarns and supplies. Who has any ideas?

By loft experience, LOL, I

By loft experience, LOL, I mean that there is a bit less warm and fuzzyiness to these two places than in the others.

I adore Habu, because I learn something new, even if I TRY to be narrow minded, every time I visit. The sale baskets on the floor are small works of art...I am not kidding!

School Products is a fabric fantasy, weaving dream, OMG look-at-that-who-knew-? adventure...but wear your macintosh and bring a machete. Just kidding, perfectly civilized, lovely people, great service, but it's a did-you-ever-imagine-you-could-even-find-that-in-NEW-YORK!!!! kind of place. Have fun!

My first time at School

My first time at School Products blew me away. I couldn't believe how some of the yarn filled out after washing. I'd look at the cone, feel the yarn, then feel this luxurious, soft sample and kept asking that the sample was REALLY knit from the same yarn? Several sweaters and afghans later, I believe it.

Rafael is the owner, he's a nice guy. His son owns Karabella, hence the full line of all their yarns.

It's always fun to browse though and see what he's got in stock. I've got several cones in my closet taking up lots of room so I've banished myself from there for a while. I'm looking at making some of EZ's sweaters and afghans to use up some of my stash.

Yikes - the possibilities

Yikes - the possibilities are endless...you could be at it for days.
Habu and School Products for the loft-minded experience.
Retail stores - Seaport Yarns, Downtown Yarns, Purl, Lion Brand Studio, Knitty City, Annie And Co., String - off the top of my head and just in Manhattan. There are probably more!
