I just wanted to post this picture I took earlier today. We have a lone tiger lily out in front of our house. Each year, it only puts out 5 or six buds, and it's always a late bloomer. All our other lilies (regular yellow lilies along the side of the house) have been blooming for ages and are still going at it. This is the penultimate bloom on our tiger lily, and I wanted to get a good shot of it before the last one blooms (probably in a couple of days). There's something I love a great deal about this flower. Its persistence and peaceful beauty. It never gets any bigger, and would not survive a split like our other lilies certainly would. It's so small, in fact, that when I've tried to pollenate to get more seeds, the pod falls off from the weight before it matures. It wants to be special. :-)
Here, you can see my girl Periwinkle looking on. She's ever the camera hog and demanded inclusion in the shot.
