North Sea Shawl
The North Sea Shawl from Cheryl Oberle's Folk Shawls. This was a great pattern - Cheryl really knows how to write an easy to follow no nonsense pattern. This one is fairly simple but very elegant I think. I love the simplicty of that window pane design. The yarn is by Southwest Weaving and is Merino Superwash sport weight in Sangre, I used #5 circ. It was knitted in two piece and then grafted at the center - that was the worst part of the project. The yarn is really spectacular, I picked it up in Taos, NM on a recent trip there. I also bought several other colors in the same yarn and I can't wait to use them. It's lovely to work with and drapes beautifully.

Great work. And I love the photo of it on the stairs. You are on target about Cheryl Oberle's patterns. They are wonderful to do. I did the Sarah Blanch shwal a few years ago in 8 colors of Koigu. I also call it my alligator wrap and it keeps me plenty warm on a chilly evening.

The sales lady at Southwest Weaving (where I bought the yarn) told me that Cheryl is coming out with a sock book soon - I hope so, that would be so cool. Evidenlty she buys a lot of her yarn from there.

Thanks guys and to those of you who are considering but haven't yet made the plunge into lace, do it. Lace patterns are so much fun as they develop before your eyes and then the final magic when you block it ...... very little in life is that fulfilling. Not quite as good as sex but it does last longer. I'm to the point that if a pattern doesn't involve lots of yo's, ssk's and psso's it just too boring to bother with. ;-)
