Back In Our Respective Places

So the big trip is over. Eric Paul is safely back in Long Beach and I am land-locked in Kansas. The visit went so well, we laughed, knit, had cocktails, laughed more and cocktailed even more.

Some of the highlights:
Found Knit-Knack LYS in Arvada...awesome!
Went to Gove City Yarns and each got enough wool for another sweater each (We counted, EP has 7 sweaters in the works or ready to be in the works and I have 6)
He met my parents and they LOVED him. My dad was in wheat harvest so EP got to ride the combine (we won't mention the combine mishap, it could have happened to anyone:)
EP went out for coffee and a little shopping with my mom (God, I think they bonded!)
We went to see and add twine to the World's Largest Ball of Twine in Cawker City Kansas!
Ep saw (and held) his first firefly.

All this and no one got run over by farm implements, sucked up by a tornado, or bitch-slapped by Dorothy. Now it is time to gear up for the next adventure, Bradley going to California. August 14th I fly out there for 9 days to experience life on the coast and to see my first warm-climate beach (have only been to the North Sea so I am excited!).

So once again, I find myself, and I am sure Eric Paul does too, thanking all of you guys for your support, love, friendship, and happy thoughts as we have progressed down the strange road that we are on. We really feel like you guys are family in the purest form of the word; people that care about each other, people that celebrate triumphs and loves; console sadness and departures together, people that are there, no matter what. There are so many reasons to be thankful for this life, for this site, for you guys, for the guys who have passed on, we remember and think of you all often (Jason, we love you, bud!), a family of our own making, that fits into our "real lives and families" so seamlessly that it feels like it has always been there.

Grace, Peace, and All the Blessings Above.

Bradley and Eric Paul.

Thanks for this........... I

Thanks for this...........
I am so pleased to hear each piece of this story. But what DID happen on the combine...that of course could have happened to anyone? Are there actually ditches to drive into in Kansas fields?

Thanks for your reflections on what it means to construct and choose family Bradley. You name it well.
love and hugs to you both - Phil

Well, umm... I was sitting

Well, umm...
I was sitting next to Brad's father in the combine. Wedged in, actually- the cab's only designed for one person. Thoroughly enjoying the harvest, when the engine started making this REALLY scary noise... Turns out, I was kinda sitting against the lever that controls the transmission fluid flow, and I had sorta turned it off. So, the $50,000 combine was running without tranny fluid. WHOOPS!
But I must say, Bradley's father was wonderful, and gracious, and didn't call me a dumb-ass. A few minutes later it was running fine. But I don't think I'm ever gonna hear the end of it.

Brad was right...it can

Brad was right...it can happen to anyone. Shows how much his dad liked you, letting you ride in the combine. My uncle wouldn't let us within 30 feet of the darn thing. Even when shut down. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

My imagination was worse

My imagination was worse :-)

Here I had you combining (or whatever the action term should be) down a small shed, or at least a fence! I did wrestle with how in the world a sweet city boy actually managed to have his hands on the controls enough to do that but you did say that they REALLY liked you.
Kudos to Brad's dad for class under fire. A $ 50,000 combine running without transmission fluid does not sound like agood thing..... but hey, you were just getting comfortable :-)
It WILL be told around the Christmas tree!

And not just around the Rohr

And not just around the Rohr Family tree, but the extended family, too. all 140+ family members will probably know about it by December 26th ;)

Thanks for the update. It provided a bright spot in my hectic day. Sounds like the trip to California ought to be just grand. The beaches are so nice. What little I saw of Long Beach when I was visiting was quite lovely. Can't wait to hear the travelogue. Lots of love and Blessings to you both from another member of the MWK Family. --Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Sounds like two people that

Sounds like two people that have found each other, good luck and many happy blessings along the way. I am so happy for anyone these days that dares be themselves. When I was growing up, it wasn't possible. After many years in an unhappy mariage, I finally said...enough. I met a wonderful man and we have been together 13 years and enjoying every day. I am so thankful that society is changing and allowing us to be ourselves. Enjoy every moment.

Sounds like the big trip is hardly over...it's only beginning! I was held in rapt attention reading your story...and celebrating how different your life is from mine. The struggles and changes that have happened in my lifetime are staggering...I am proud of you and wish you the best in life...because now, you can.
