bulging stash

My friend Gabriella went to Italy to clear out some of her mother's things after she died and returned with a LOT of beautiful Italian mohair wool which had been in a cupboard for years. You can see how delighted my other hald was as I unpacked it....

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to knit something for Gabriella as her Mum won't get round to it anymore and, as I've never used this kind of wool, thought I'd see if any of you knew of any patterns which would be good. I'm open to all suggestions...there's a lot of it too!

Oh, my, you lucky dog! To me

Oh, my, you lucky dog! To me it looks like classic lace weight yarn so a lace scarf or shawl would be gorgeous. You can always do a search on Ravelry to see what others might have done with it.

Agree with Joe, it is very

Agree with Joe, it is very adaptable and makes great light weight projects. It looks rather "heavy" in the pic, there are a couple of strands of green over the right hand, judging by that you'll knit it as worsted or bulky...make sure and read the ball band. The reason that mohair like this is knit on needles that seem way too large is that it will "bloom" and fill in the spaces, thus the beauty of mohair. Some very open lace looks nice in mohair like this and for that I would suggest a very large needle maybe US 11, 13 or 15 but for a sweater or non lace item probably 8 or 9. Whatever you decide keep us informed and we'll help as we can.

With all that luscious

With all that luscious mohair, the mind boggles at the possibilities. Light stoles, sweaters, shrugs.......Yowza! Alice Starmore, Jean Moss, Kaffe Fasset, and a few other designers all have great patterns that either call for mohair or are easily adaptable. Have fun and I look forward to what you come up with. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
