I was so excited to discover this site - it's good to know we're not alone! I just started knitting last year. I've been working on some simple hats (The Preemie Project has some great, easy patterns) and am starting my first afghan. I'm really interested in learning more about circular needles since I want to do socks.

Welcome, I'm a beginner who

Welcome,

I'm a beginner who started with socks about a year ago. I like wood or bamboo Double Pointed Needles best so far. It is not very critical as to length as long as they are long enough. I am in the middle of a couple of hats and tried the second one with a circular needle and gave up after 6 or 7 rows. It was a little too long and caused me a lot of wrestling with the stitches. It seems there may be a set of requirements to get the right needle for the job. I have a friend (twistedspinner), who does beautiful work and loves her circular needles, so I have a few questions for her next time we cross paths.

This group is just absolutely full of wonderful people with plenty of experience, help, and support. Some of the social interaction just leaves me rolling on the floor. I enjoy every moment I spend on MWK.

'Bunny' is actually in honor

'Bunny' is actually in honor of our two house rabbits. I've yet to ski a day in my life :) Snowshoeing is about as 'downhill' as I get.

I've been at the knitting for about a year, but I've really picked up the pace over the last 6 months or so. Looking forward to asking a lot of (I'm sure) silly questions on this site!

Welcome from a neighbor to the North. We are a great group of guys (and a few women) and it makes for a fantastic community. Socks are pretty easy knitting and I hope you enjoy them as much as the rest of us. Not familiar with the Preemie Project but I come from a large extended family so I get lots of baby things knit. Welcome, for certain!

The Preemie Project is one that's very dear to my heart. Back in 1975, I lost my sister at only 13 days old, and that has never left me...and I knit for all of the different sizes and stages of life.

Be careful!!! Socks are addicting!!!

I'm a sweater knitter, generally, and have made my share of socks before, but, lately, all of a sudden, I got bit by the sock bug and now, I can't even NOT want to make a pair. I'll cast off a project and get ready to plan what I'm casting on for next, and firmly tell myself that I do NOT want to make another pair of socks, and what do you expect gets cast right back onto the needles?

I might suggest to get familiar and comfortable with using double pointed needles if you're just learning how to knit socks...it's good to know how to divide the stitches and be able to do that just by thinking it out, or doing it as you're going along...afterward, then, you might wish to try using the 11-inch circular.

Good luck either way 'round.
