This square is made in Garter stitch and it is a very interesting square if you need to pick a stitch you skipped, because it needs to be picked up in a garter stitch way, pick one stitch from the front and the next one from the back. You learn something new all the time lol! This square will also be your gauge measurement, you will gauge all your squares by this one. Mine came up 8.5 by 8.5 inches so I am at about 4.6 stitches per inch on size 6 US, unblocked in cotton. See you in the next Square.

This will be fun and instructional following your progress. Can you say a few words about knitting with cotton? I have never tried it.

Sure thing Albert, Cotton unlike wool is kind of dry yet it can be soft, depending on the processing that has been subjected to. I enjoy knitting with cotton because it does not take any oils out of your skin when you are knitting with it.

Cotton can not be fused like wool, and weaving the ends is a bit tricky but can be done. Cotton is less grabby of the needles. When you go into cotton blends and mercerized cotton those have different properties. I find cotton to be very forgiving of handling and most of it is strong.

Two rows of each color is what the pattern calls for! The cast on in one color which is the same color as the cast off, 2 rows per color! I am planning to do a single crochet border when I have all the squares together!
