socks for me
I made my first pair of socks about a year ago and have made a pair every couple of weeks since but this is only my second pair for me. I love giving socks away but it's also nice to be generous with yourself. These are made from Mission Falls Superwash DK weight. It will be interesting to see how they wear being 100% merino and all.

They are warm and cozy but like most hand knit socks they breathe better then commercial socks and never suffocate my feet.

Visit Crafty Andy's Blog what size needles do you use. Your color choices are very nice by the way, they look fantastic. What kind of cast on? WHat size needles? What weight of yarn? How did you finishe the toe grafting , how many stitches on each side? I want to know, it helps me get into gear about making socks which will be my next projects soon!
Top down, long tail cast on,
Top down, long tail cast on, Size 2 needles, DK wt yarn, Kitchener stitch, 16 stitches each of four needles,total of 64 stitches. The cuff is k1, p1 leg pattern is k2, p2. I knit continental and I'm a very loose knitter so you may need to make adustments for your style if knitting. And thanks for the compliment.

what do you mean by "DK wt yarn"?
DK weight is lighter then
DK weight is lighter then worsted weight, heavier then fingering or most sport. (sport and DK overlap to some extent.)
see This page which has one of the clearest most comprehensive decriptions of the various weights I've seen. Though the lines between all the various classificatons blur....

Thanks for the web address, very handy. Am only a beginner. I had noticed different weights but I have language difficulties, lots of wool is produced here in Turkey and the wool is exported so when I see different things printed on labels I don't know if it is a local anomaly or how it really is. Now I have a reference.

Well, cashmere comes to mind. I have some gorgeous cashmere I picked up at a thrift store but have never been brave enough to work up. A coworker once told me cashmere socks were practically sinful, they felt so good. And those were commercial machine knit. I imagine a handknit pair would be sinful, if you wanted to look at it that way. I wouldn't. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
I've also made some Alpaca
I've also made some Alpaca socks for my sister - they seemed pretty cozy too. I've never knit with cashmere but the next time I'm at the LYS I'll be looking.
Dear friends gifted me some
Dear friends gifted me some fantastic alpaca sock weight (Tree Frog - handspun Bolivian) and they are fabulously soft and comfortable. Unfortunately, I have to reknit them because of damage on the soles. I think a m*th may have had a snack.
