Welcome to the world of knitting and MWK!  This is a great place to learn and be supported by a great bunch of guys, both experienced knitters and some pretty new at it, as I am.  First, understand why you are knitting.  Some enjoy the challenge of designs and stitches, while others,like me, do it to relax and use simple design and projects.  For now, I only use the basic knit and purl stitches and make simple scarves.  But it is very relaxing to me (being careful not to take on frustrating projects), and have found that using natural fibes and quality needles just adds to the pleasure.  Practice and explore to find your own personal niche and I know that you will quicly love this craft.  And, don't forget to leave posts here to share with everyone.

It is difficult at first. when I look back at some of the first thngs that I created I cringe, laugh & remember the struggles I went through. After a while & lots & lots of practice it is like riding a bike. Then you challenge yourself with more skills like cables & so it goes on. Don't give up. The other guys gave great advice.

Knitting is like a great dinner or great sex.... take your time with it and enjoy the experience. 

There are a bizillion techniques out there to learn and choose from.  Find the ones that work best for you and use them to your advantage.  The 'knitting help' suggestion from Jeff is a great one and rest assured that all you have to do is post a question here and us guys will come running to the rescue!

I'm new to knitting too. It is hard to learn, but with practice it gets easier.  I'm still learning new techniques, but it really only took a week or two (knitting daily) to get the hang of basic knitting and purling. 

If you haven't discovered it yet, there are some great teaching videos available online at: www.knittinghelp.com.  I found them to be a great help.  Also, throwing out ideas and complaining about problems here on menwhoknit.com has helped me a great deal.  If you describe the problem you're having, someone on here will tell you how to get through it.

When I was teaching Music, I used to tell my students "Practice doesn't make perfect unless you practice perfectly" and I find myself repeating that mantra as I learn new techniques in knitting.
