just to say
I had mentioned him to a number of you, and the health issues that he was going through and that we were dealing with, but I can't remember who. It's just easier to tell you all: This last Wednesday morning I lost my best buddy of 19+ years. He's buried on the farm and I will miss him terribly.

My heart goes out to you. I know what it's like to lose an animal companion. It is certainly of no less import or impact than losing a human loved one. The photo of you two together conveys the spirit of your relationship in a way that words simply cannot. I wish you healing, and the best possible memories of him.

I'm saddened to hear your news. I'd say that both you and Howard were very fortunate to have found each other for those 19 years. To paraphrase something an older relative said to me once, I'd imagine that the bounty of goodness that he brought to your life for those 19 years is certainly worth the heartache caused by his absence. May you find peace in those memories.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. From the photo Howard looks like such a great personality. Eyes that kind always have such a good soul attached. You were both so blessed with each other. What a treasure of time and memories!
A couple of years ago now I lost my mare (she was 34). I'd had her for 14 years. She too was my best friend, my teacher, my child... just everything. I know for me, I wouldn't trade one single second with my girl. We are so blessed to have them in our lives! You and Howard are in my prayers.

I sense that "Howard" was most fortunate in having you for his owner. I had never stopped to wonder how long horses live. Your "best buddy" was born on my 33rd birthday. How sweet to be able to bury him in a spot that has meaning for you instead of at some anonymous place. Thank you for posting your news, Robert, because as sad as the subject matter is, it is a touching and beautiful post.
