As you may know, I do retailoring/repair/and finishing for folks as a sideline.

Here are some pictures of a sweater I redesigned for my knitting buddy (the one you all voted for in the Yo-yo Ma competition). It was knit out of a lovely Silk merino blend at great expense, but somehow, she had knitted a mammoth version by accident. HOW MAMMOTH? You may ask. I am 6 foot and weight 240# with a 50inch chest. I was SWIMMING IN IT. She's tall, but rather slender for her height.

I took TWENTY FOUR (24) inches out of the width of the body, and 6 inches from the fullest part if the sleeve. I redesigned the shaping to make it slightly fitted, and to give the redesigned button-band the fitted waistcoat flare. The oversized portrait neckline was original to the original garment but we liked it and decided to keep it...I stabilized the neckline and shoulder girdle, and redesigned the sleeve attachment to a "modified inset".

We're both pretty damn happy with the end result, as pictured:

it always amazes how you can

it always amazes how you can retailer something knit and it looks like it was never resized, I'd end up with something that at one time might have resembled yarn.

Actually, she knit the wrong

Actually, she knit the wrong size. The gauge wasn't inappropriate for the yarn. How she could have gone through the entire deal of knitting that sweater an not realizing that it was GINORMOUS....I guess it was because it was the first one she's knit in a decade. (She has since knit a really cute jacket~different yarn/pattern~ that fits perfectly. Just one of those things, I guess.
