This is the project that I worked on while I was in the Quad Cities.
Interestingly enough, when I got to Logan airport, the knitting needles were of NO QUESTION...none at all...but they had to re-scan my bag over a deck of cards -- A DECK OF CARDS!!!!
...and still no question about the knitting needles.
Here's a few pictures, because you really can't see the detail unless you get a bit closer. I call it a sampler because that's exactly what it is, just a sampler of a few knit-and-purl patterns.
I won't talk about the flights just yet -- needless to say, we were spending the night at O'Hare (Tom, the weather was worse than anything -- word of the year for me: "terra firma") Besides, the things I would have to say about some portions of the journey would only carry language too unsuitable for a public forum, and so, onto blogspot it goes!
At least my knitting kept my hands busy. Last year, remember, I didn't bring my knitting and I ended up with several bottles of vodka to keep my hands occupied...and this year, well, "several" only ended up being three over the nine-day period, but, out came a nice red shawl. I'm thinking about donating it to the "Go Red" campaign...don't know yet.
...and there's a couple pictures of me just knitting in the airport in Moline.
I haven't blogged about the journey just yet, but, it's in the works.

The shawl is beautiful. I really like the interesting texture. Glad you had a bit of adventure in your travels - makes life far more interesting.

Is that edge a 2 x 2 rib and then cast off in pattern? Or a different type of cast off? YOu have a wee bit of ruffle working but I can't see what makes it.
Yes. It is knit 2 purl 2
Yes. It is knit 2 purl 2 ribbing.
The casting off is much different: I knit one full ridge of garter stitch first, just to get an all-knit row and then I knit 1, then replace that stitch back on the left-hand needle and knit two together -- and repeat it all the way down.

The shawl looks great
The shawl looks great despite the bad airport experience.
Sorry you had such a trying
Sorry you had such a trying time with traveling to the Quad Cities. We stayed here in Philadelphia where we had great weather (considering it is winter.) Phoning family in Iowa was a lot easier than trying to go there and fight the snow, ice and hectic airports.
A deck of cards on the scan
A deck of cards on the scan looks very much like a block of C-4 explosive....
Shawl looks really nice - love the texture in the detail.
MMario - I'm not divorced from reality - we're having a trial separation
