Ok... slightly apologetically....
I will be taking our (almost) 3-year old daughter in for some medical tests tomorrow morning. Although I'd rather not post too many details in a public entry, if you are the type to pray/hope/etc. we would appreciate it.
The tests are intended to confirm a diagnosis that could be relatively minor or extremely major - needless to say, we're concerned.
EDIT: We went and took tests this morning - blood, urine & some x-rays. They all went reasonably well. Especially since almost-3-year-olds are notorious for not peeing on command :-) Thank you for all of your kind words and thoughts - I'll post some kind of an update when we find something out.
Perhaps a pic of my most recent FO pulls the post slightly into the "on topic" range? It is the third of my "Habitat" hats (from Brooklyntweed's pattern). Knitted in Rowan's Cacoon (80% Merino Wool & 20% Kid Mohair) -- wonderful stuff, although it turned out quite a bit bigger than my first two. This is intended to be the "sample" hat for our LYS, where I may be teaching a class on the pattern in January.

Habitat is a really well written pattern, isn't it. I've made three myself in between other projects - and they all look great on the people I gave them to. Nice work.

I agree it is a great pattern. My original copy was missing a couple of Knit stitches in the one row of the chart, but once I got that figured out it's great! The ONLY drawback is that none of the rows are repeated -- I have to pay very close attention to the charts, they don't come naturally to me.
You're right though... awesome pattern!

Tim, you are in my prayers as well.
Also, what size needles did you use with the cocoon, and how much larger did it get? I've been wondering what to do with some of my leftover cocoon yarn, and I love the first hat I made with the correct size yarn.

I cast on the Habitat with US7 (bamboo) and knit the "body" of the hat with US8 (wood). The Cacoon ended up being about 3/4 of an inch longer and about an inch bigger around than the previous 2 I made.
If I used the cacoon again, I might cast on with US5 and knit with US6 or US7.. It's a fairly stretchy pattern so a little tighter isn't bad.

I can empathize. I had been given some incredibly dour news by my doctor who referred me elsewhere for testing of my own. Fortunately, everything turned out to be as good as possible under the circumstances and the prognosis is a minor and brief period of annoyance (preceded by nerve-racking uncertainty, of course).
Make of that what you will, but my wish for you is nothing worse than that. I hope your diagnostics reveal a minor nuisance for your daughter at worst.
