Knitting a hat.

So I bought this knit flat-topped hat at Saturday Market 13 years ago. I love this hat. Every time I wear this hat, I get all kinds of compliments. I have even had friends try to talk me out of the hat. It is a very simple hat and I have always wanted to know how to make another hat just like it. I took the hat to Kristin at The Naked Sheep Knit Shop in NoPo and she figured it all out. The top of the hat is all short rows to make the flat disc and then the side of the hat are all picked up and knitted in the round. This is for a solid color hat of course. Eventually I will try to add tripping.

I am knitting my first hat right now, as a swatch and learning and altering the pattern as I go. I have finished to top and there are some flaws (I wasn't sure exactly how to do the Wrap and Turn, but I did get it figured out). Now I am working down the sides. I hope to be finished with it this weekend and start another more refined and finished version using all the tricks and technique I have learned on this so called swatch (first hat).

Yesterday I stopped in at Close Knit on Alberta and picked up some Noro Kureyon and I plan on knitting a scarf alternating light and dark colors in a K2 YO pattern. I saw a scarf there that was knit with Magnum yarn with this stitch pattern and a scarf knit with a rib pattern using the light and dark alternating Noro yarn. So I blended the two scarves together in my head and now I can't wait to see what happens.

On a random note... Starbucks Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Orgasm in a cup with a sugar rush that will make your knee pits sweat. YUM! Could you ask any more from a grande beverage?

I'd like to see this hat in

I'd like to see this hat in person, if I could...I could write up a pattern for it, I'm sure. Send me an message if you are going to be around town this weekend with a little spare time.

Thanks,
Bob

I've done a few different

I've done a few different flat top hat patterns and have had some success. But I'd love another pattern. Would you (or Kristin) be willing to share? I assume the hat you get compliments on is the one in the pic? I got two in Nepal about 15 years ago and I get compliments on them as well and have wanted to copy them.

Oh, YOU'RE LOCAL!!!! COOL! There is a really nice Sit, Sip and knit Thursday evenings at KnitPurl on SW 10th and Alder. I'll probably miss it tonight, but I recommend the crowd. Nice hat. I'd like to see it.
