Finished Two Sweaters

ronhuber's picture

This weekend I finished up and blocked two sweaters I have been working on. The first one is made with Jamieson and Smith Shetland wool in a lovely heather plum colour. I used 3.25 mm (US 3) needles and perfected a pattern that I have developed - made up from many sources. It is knit from the top down and has neck shaping. Borders are done in 2x2 rib. I knit the neck band 1 1/2 inches did a purl row and then knit another 1 1/2 inches but with the purls and knits reversed so that they would fit into each other. It is now my favourite sweater. The second one (pictured in the attachment) is also so very comfortable and knit with a DK weight wool I ordered from New Lanark Mills in Scotland. A MWK brother, Britisher, suggested it and it was worth it. I used 4 mm (US 6) needles and it is constructed in the same manner. It is a green and beige tweed yarn ( 90% wool and 10% silk).

Both sweaters are beautiful!

Both sweaters are beautiful! How long did it take you to finish the plum one? I'm working on a sweater now on size 3 US needles. I knit and knit and knit and knit and knit and hardly seem to get anywhere, but must admit that fabric produced is quite nice. I'd be happy if it comes out half as nice as yours!

It took me maybe three weeks. I knit in the round so it goes a lot faster.

I like them both. The sweater I am working on now is also simple stockinette- I like the timeless appeal of a field of plain stitch. How do you do the neck shaping on a top-down?

Veni, vidi, kniti.
