as I sit here planning my trip to Germany next year I got to thinking about the horror that was my trip to Romania and decided to tell you all about it, since I have kind of hinted around about it before.
I was supposed to leave for Romania on the 20th of Aug and return on the 3rd. But the flights from Bacau to Bucharesti and vice versa were canceled. so Northwest changed the days to the 19th of Aug and the 4th of Sept, no problems, everything is find and dandy!
I go to the airport on the 19th, and the kiosk tells me to speak to an agent, he comes and looks everything over for a long time, asks if I need a visa, I say no, and ask if there is a problem, no no he says, and issues me my tickets, but only the ticket TO romania not the return, he tells me I'll get those on the way back.
I get there fine, the story of what happened while there is for another day, but it cured me of ever wanting to go there again.
I go back to Bacau on the 3rd, and spend the night in a hotel waiting my flight on the 4th, at 4 am I get up, shower and head to the airport at 5am, my flight leaves at 7. I get there and they inform me I missed my flight, I was supposed to fly yesterday. I explain to them the problem, and they call NW, and get no answer. 5 minutes before my flight leaves they say ok we know the flight was canceled we're sure the problem is just as you say, get on the plane, then inform me that I'll have to pay 60 Euro in Bucharesti for the ticket. in bucharesti the same problem, they however refuse to call NW, finally Bacau calls them and tells them to expect me, 10 minutes before the flight leaves they issue me a ticket, and set my luggage to go all the way, but can't issue tickets for the rest of my flights.
I get to Paris, same problem, I'm a little fat mexican woman crying her eyes out in the middle of the airport and yelling I dont' want to be stranded in Paris, I hate the french, I think they don't like me either. after arguing for 2 hours (all my lay overs were about 2 hours) the woman finally agrees to look at the papers I have from the other airports and they give me a ticket, she tells me to run, I have 15 minuts and my gate is at the OTHER end of the airport. I get to the gate and because she gives me only a boarding pass and NOT a ticket he demands the ticket, I said they didn't give me one, please call the ticket office, no no he can't do that, he talks to two others and they finally let me on to Detroit.
I get to detroit and check there, everything is PERFECT, and I go wait the 4 hours til my flight. finally we board, I get up to the lady, hand her my ticket, she looks at me, says ma'am there's a problem. You're already on the plane. I DON"T THINK SO. she says. hmmm I dont' think so either. then asks me if I would be willing to wait for the next plane that takes off in about an hour. No I told her I have had too many problems, I'm too tired and I have someone waiting to pick me up and they have already left for the airport.
I get on the plane, and about mid michigan we run into a horrible storm and flying right through the middle of it. I laid my head on the side of the plane and thought "well if I die at least I'm close to home" and slept until we landed.
on top of this, I set off EVERY metal detector I went through despite having NO metal on me, they insist it was my bra, but no metal there! in detroit I got chosen for a random check in security.
there were many other small problems along the way I just glanced over it all. and told the big stuff LOL didn't want to go on for too long.
But the real kick in the teeth came when I called NW the next day to complain. the woman I talked to said "I see it all here. The person who fixed this didn't link up with the other airlines when she corrected the tickets, and I see a note here from the agent in TC, I wonder why he didn't link it up"
Basically everything could have been fixed at ANY number of times, each time an airport called they could have fixed it. There were 4 times it could have been fixed and wasn't.
And I didn't even get an apology from NW. :/
