MWK 2009 Calendar
Calling all photogenic camera hams... Yes, you, with the shirtless profile pic! I'm talking to you!
We've joked about creating a MWK calendar over the last couple of years and, given that there are a few others on the scene, I think now is a good time to act on it! It's also going to be a charity project and we'll be donating most of the profits to a group or organization that we select as a group.
It's a easy project with wide appeal and there's great opportunity to help raise some money for a good cause. Now, given that this is for charity, we need to raise some big bucks! Here are some ideas on how to do that:
- find a printer willing to donate services in exchange for gratuitous advertising
- persuade local yarn stores to stock them
- create some ad units for print and online advertising
- outreach to knitting publications and podcasts to aid in promotion
- excellent photos of legitimate male knitters (no hotties who can't purl!)
- each of us commit to selling a certain number of calendars
The use of "hottie" was purely intended for comedic value, I assure you. You don't have to be beautiful, but you must be in an interesting, well-composed, knitting-themed photograph. Use your artist's eye... This could get on Oprah!
Everyone can help! Re-read that list above and think about what you can do to make this project a success. How can we raise $10,000?

I created a new category for image uploads called "Calendar." Feel free to upload some images in to that category if you'd like some community feedback.
I've gotten some and honestly, most just aren't good enough. No more shots where I can see your pubes, please! Pay attention to the backgrounds of your photos... this is for a calendar. A big, glossy, calendar that people will pay good money for in a crap economy.
As I said in the original message, the bar really does have to be high or this just isn't going to work. If you don't know a photographer, try posting on your local craigslist looking for a student who can help you out. There are lots of budding photographers out there who can help!

I'm kind of off in the knitting desert out here; I could probably make a pretty decent picture for you but not much in the way of LYS sales. (That is, if you don't mind a hairy tattooed boy artfully draped in alpaca.)
Blogging might help get the word out, though, and I have quite a few knitting friends who might find a calendar of MWK super hot.
At the moment I'm finding knitting to be super hot in a different way. 32 deg C (91F) this week and 70%+ humidity in Puerto Vallarta; as soon as it cools down and is less humid, I can start the boyfriend sweater.

Update: LOL, have to love the flood of PMs after this comment. The best part is that I called the guy up and said he can always use me in one of his projects again, so if I want to get in the calendar I can.....hmmm...off to the gym I go.

Anyone with a good digital camara and photo skills going to MFKR? You could possibly get some good shots without complicating a lot of peoples lives, and should have plenty of knitting/fiber type props available.
