FREDERIC: Oh, is there not one "maiden" here Whose homely face and bad complexion Have caused all hope to disappear Of ever winning man's affection? ... (From Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Pirates of Penzance'... I am, after-all, the VERY model of a modern homosexual...
"I've always been thought beautiful...in the dark with the light behind me".....Katisha "Mikado"
That song is amazingly funny. The G&S version is funny but the parody is even better.
Gilbert and Sullivan are basically extremely happy childhood memories, not only because my grandmother used to sing with the D'Oyle Carte opera company and therefor sang a lot of G&S, but also because they are the composers who got me interested in classical music
Haar, haar, me heARRty! Will you be spinning some of your swatch-buckling, sea-faring yARRns to your captives and crew?
