Rhinebeck ; to go or not to go

I've been tempted for years - but have always had schedule conflicts. This year however.......

so talk me into it. What can I expect besides spending more money then I should?

Ha! It is amazing to me that with the little that I ever leave the Portland area, I have actually been no Rhinebeck....not the festival, but the city. I was a summercamp group leader up the road near Elizaville. A summer I will never forget for how unpleasant it was, but on my two days off that summer I was able to see some of Hudson, Rhinebeck and Redhook. If nothing else, that area is very pretty, and I am sure that the trip would be well worth it.

Lunch with me and Jim (Knipper) on Saturday should be worth the drive!!! I'm sure you'll get to meet others from here as well!

c'mon guys - talk me into this. Is it really worth the five hour drive? I mean - I could sleep for at least three of those if I do NOT go....knit the rest; and ditto for going home.

Definitely go!

This will be my third year and I'm looking forward to it. I look forward to browsing all the vendors, seeing Mel and Dave again, lunch with Knipper, and hopefully seeing Joe too. It's a blast, despite the issues that Joe pointed out. Last year I spent more on wine and food than I did on fiber.

Since I am fairly new to the world of knitting outside the isles of my local Micheals Craft store, I have never even heard of Rhinebeck. Could you tell us a little more about it - what it is and dates? Sounds so bad that one might have to go!!! lol

I go to Rhinebeck every

I go to Rhinebeck every year, and I keep promising myself I won't go again. There are never bargains on yarn or fiber, the crowds get worse and worse, and more and more rude. The vendor areas get more and more cramped and full and the food lines get longer and longer.

Will I go this year?...yes I will.

Why?...because my friends will be there and usually the time of year in Upstate New York is just beautiful.

I also do get inspired by the various spinning wheels or fiber preparation equipment. I'm thinking about buying combs this year if I can find something that interests me. I may also get a fleece that I can card on my drum carder I bought last year.

If you do go, let us know. I'd love to meet you.
