my bf gave me the biggest surprise of my life this weekend.

first, all my friends and family showed up at our weekend place near santa barbara for my 50th. only the second surprise bday in my life and the first was not exactly a surprise. this caught me completely off guard. i had friends from east coast, hawaii, washington, alabama, vegas. quite impressed. but it got better

next, he told me we were all staying overnight, 30 of us, in tents.

then, on sunday, after breakfast, we surprised all the guests by getting married. we have been partners for 14 yrs and had a commitment ceremony 3 yrs ago, but now that gay marriage is legal, at least for the time being, we are legally married. we had applied for a license right after it became legal, so we were already prepared. my brother just became a reverend, so he performed the ceremony. it was on the property, our vowels were whitman and rumi poems. he had a cake from the cake divas. i'm still reeling.

the only drawback about the whole amazing weekend was i never got time to work on the WIP, a cable shawl for his grandmother's bday in august.

Welcome to the 50's and congratulations on your wedding! What a thrill!!! Your announcement may be "off topic" but I was grinning from ear to ear as I read it. My partner and I just celebrated 28 years together and had a wonderful committment ceremony more than 16 years ago, and although New York State has not yet progressed to the point of recognizing same sex unions I think it is only a matter of time before that happens. Here's wishing you and your spouse every happiness in your life together. Thanks for sharing this with us!

thank all of you for you kindness and well wishes and congratulations. this has been a year where history is being made on many fronts. i never had to decide in a presidential primary before between and woman and an african american as viable candidates. now gays can marry. what will be next? peace? one can only keep the ball moving forward

Congratulations! It sounds like it was wonderful celebration. We're now very fortunate in Canada that same sex marriage is legal across the country - there are several other countries in which it is legal as well.

i think with massachusettes, vermont, california, the gay friendly messages from ny and nj, this could be a house of cards that falls quicker than we imagine. maybe that's just me being overly optimistic (which i'm usually not).

congrats on 24 yrs. come on out. arnold thinks it's a great tourist attraction. maybe i should open a gay wedding chapel. i could knit everyone a sacred shawl as a keepsake :)

Wow! How Wonderful, congratulations. The BF and I thought about flying to CA to marry, still not sure what to do, although we are planning something for our 10th next year. Maybe someday, eons after I die, gay marriages will be legal in Kansas, too :)

better do it before november election. there's another gay ban initiative that is running 50/50 in polls which may close the door again here for a time. at least the legal one that occur before then will remain legal.
