Hey y'all-
I'm new to the site but plan on sticking around awhile. Pleased to meet other guys who knit.
About me:
Name: Just call me Gil
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Orientation: Straight
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Chile color: Green with chicken, red with beef
Weight: Definitely
Beer: Blue Moon belgian white when I can get it, otherwise a sam adams brown ale, or worst case scenario, a coors original. If they don't have any of those, or a decent bock-dopplebock-stout, I'll just get a gin and tonic.
Marital status: Divorced and cohabitating - two different women.
Knitting history: I do actually inherit knitting honestly by way of my great grandmother on my mom's side, and my mom herself, but it took a book to teach me how to get started. Once I got through the mandatory garter stitch scarf I did another one in a different width so I'd have one ladies and one men's, then went on to knit a pair of socks as my second project - they turned inside out at the heel flap, but I was able to repeat the error so they at least match. I did the beanie next to learn about decreases and color changes, then another pair of socks where I learned about stocking stitch, and now I'm working on a kind of freestyle cat blanket thing just because I needed a break from the DPNs. I haven't learned anything but the knit on (or purl on if the mood strikes me) cast on, mainly because I haven't seen the need yet. I'm sure that's in the future too.
Everything I'm doing is acrylic worsted weight right now - it's just easier when your learning. I will eventually try out some wools, but not until I feel more confident in not screwing up the project.
Anyway - glad to be on board, I'll probably see y'all in the chat room.
-Gil

Truth be told I can take or leave the beer. The DPNs didn't require any guts at all as I remember - I'm in it for the socks, and they were the way to get there.

Weeeelllll- Yes and no.
Weeeelllll-
Yes and no. When I finished it up, I found out it was way too small for my head, so I gave it to my roommate who actually made it look good, who then put it on one of her many Steiff.
My philosophy is (will be?) that nothing is too big or too small - it's just in someone elses size.
