Tying up loose ends...

Gentlemen-
OK, on row 54 of the "Tree of Life" afghan (pix to follow...) and grafting in new skeins...
I've never found a way to join/weave in new yarns that I'm really satisfied with. I don't like the knot, nor the little ends are yarn that always seem to find their way out. I've not had good luck with the idea of untwisting the yarn and twisting in the new- any ideas/ help?

I'm not in any position to give advice, but I've had excellent luck with the felted join, which I suspect is similar or identical to the spit join steve lyle mentioned.

I recently started weaving

I recently started weaving the two tails (the one from the end of the old color and the one from the beginning of the new) into the work right where the change happens. It's sort of hard to explain, but I think this does it: Weaving in yarn tails.

It's similar to weaving the stranded color into the piece if it's stranded across more than 4 or 5 stitches in back, but it's done every stitch - first with color A, then color B, then color A, then color B - until you run out of the yarn.
