Six years ago when I was working for Miriam's Kitchen, a breakfast and case management program for homeless adults in Washington DC, we developed a gala fund raising event based on a quote from Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist teacher: "Compassion is like the moon reflecting in one hundred bowls of water." This event, called 100 Bowls of Compassion, included bowls for silent auction and a live auction of high end things - trips to Mexico, France, etc. It was first held in the atrium of the World Bank but has grown so large that it's now held in the Building Museum here in Washington DC. Individual tickets go for $250. The event is almost entirely volunteer driven, all the way from the food prep to staffing the event the night of. Most of the bowls that we collect from artists are pottery or glass, but I'd LOVE to see some knitted or felted bowls this year from guys on this website! If you'd be interested in donating a handmade piece, drop me a line and I'll send you the details. I've attached a picture from the event last year.
