...but this triggered an eruption! I've broken a couple of bamboo needles before, but never metallic ones.

I've broken a lot of needles... resin,wood, plastic and I think I had some metal ones fracture...I take it these weren't hollow points?

Just out of curiousity: I'm assuming you "throw" vs "Pick". Do you tuck the stationery needle (if you throw) under an arm or supported by a belt when you knit? That would have a lot to do with metal fatigue...

frazom: well, it did make me laugh too, partly because it was so absurd but also because it made me think of "No Country for Old Men". (Won't spoil it for those who are going to.)

BuduR: whatever metal is easiest to break, that's for certain! Before I quit smoking my arms looked like spaghetti, but now my upper arms are more like pike bellies.

Tallguy: apart from being neither violent nor strong I don't get angry easily. (I sound like an old senile cow, don't I?) I was eager rather than mad. Anyway, there's no reason to hide, promise!

I just can't believe you did this, what have those needles ever done to you but shown you love and kindness. This is probably the worst form of knitter cruelty on the face of the earth, you should be so ashamed.

I would not have believed it without the picture. You must be a real mean knitter. I would send this picture to the manufacturer of the needles to see their reaction.

Good idea - maybe I'll even have a stab at blackmail, since they make nice yarn!
Seriously, I can hardly believe what happened myself! I'm not very strong, and definitely not violent. It must have been all the wear and tear my needles have been subject to over the years.
