Tiny cable needle

I'm going to start making my second pair of socks soon. I'm experimenting with different stitch patterns. I want to try a simple cable. I'm using fingering yarn and 2mm (US 0) needles. The problem is my cable needle is 2.5mm.

Any suggestions as to what I can use as a cable needle that's 2mm or smaller diameter?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm using two circular needles, so I don't have an extra dpn to use.

You could use a straightened

You could use a straightened paper-clip, or try the cabling without a needle technique - there's a tutorial on grumperina.

Do you have an extra needle? I usually by DPNs in sets of 5 but only use 4 for a pair of socks. DPNs work great for holding cables.

Depending on how wide you want your cable to because if it's relatively small you don't need a cable needle you could just drop the stitch/es and then pick them back up again after you've crossed the other ones over.

use a short piece of wire...(smooth the ends with a nail file) ...or a hairpin.

I don't know that it should

I don't know that it should be a problem. It's just holding the stitch... when you make the knew stitch, it'll be with the 0 needle on the right. At least that's what I think...

the only problem with using

the only problem with using something bigger than your stitches is when you cross the stitches you're working into tend to be tighter and a bit of a pain. I'd go with something smaller rather than bigger.
