Geez, that would be like using your insulin needles to knit with. I'm with mountain_ash size 5s send me around the bend and I wish I could blame it on my big masculine hands but alas I have little girly hands.

Size 0 is as small as I've gone too. Haven't broken any of the needles while working with them, but my youngest Italian Greyhound has found them quite enjoyable (as well as my size 1's, size 2's, size 3's, and so on.....)

I didn't even think they made that size. One 0 is as far as I've gone, but 0000? Can you even *see* the needles at that small a scale?

I believe someone on one of the lace lists mentioned working with 0x8 (that would be 00000000) needles.

yup - I just googled :

8/0 needles are .5 mm in diameter.

Size zero is miniscule as far as I am concerned. MMario - ambiguity is cultivated, it doesn't happen in a vacuum!

I work on size 1 needles all

I work on size 1 needles all the time, but I have to be careful because I tend to bend the metal one and break the wood ones. But otherwise aren't too bad to work with.

Wow! I tried knitting on

Wow! I tried knitting on size 5 needles and they feel like I'm using toothpicks to knit. They just don't feel comfortable in my hands. I couldn't imagine working on such small needles.

I've knit a bookmark on

I've knit a bookmark on 0000's using embroidery thread. Tedious is the mildest word I would use. Before I'd do it again, I'd think I'd invest in a pair of magnifying eyeglasses (even SEEING those tiny stitches was a bitch!!!) and a case of bourbon, or two cases.

But even Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a loincloth couldn't convince me to do a pair of socks on those things!!!
