Intro and stuff

Calloravion's picture

Hello everyone! I am new to the site, and to knitting. I started knitting about 2 weeks ago. So far I have learned the very basics (cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off) and have completed one project (a simple little wash cloth).

Now I'm doing another wash cloth of the same pattern, but trying Continental style instead. I found knitting the first one frustrating because I had a severe tendency to knit way too tightly. This time I'm having the opposite problem; the knit seems way too loose and I can't get enough tension in the yarn when my left hand fingers are flying every which way doing the stitches. And makes it look so easy...

Well, I have a ladyfriend coming over soon and hopefully she can give me a few pointers since she's knitted that way since she was a wee lassie.

Anyway, nice to meet you all!

washcloths/facecloths/dishcloths are great for practice, testing and swatching new patterns, etc; *plus* they make great gifts!

Hello and welcome!
Knitting washcloths are great for developing your tension. I'm sure after a few more, you'll get the hang of it.

Welcome! And don't worry

Welcome! And don't worry about your tension, you'll get the hang of it. Also I've heard that alot of people knit alot looser when knitting continental, some just end up going down a needles size.

Welcome. I think all of us have tension issues when we start knitting, but the more you practice the better you get. Everyone here will tell you the same.
