I'm pretty proud of myself at the moment - I finished a little 42" scarf for my 3 year old daughter. Yes, it was garter stitch. Yes, it was self-striping cheap-o yarn, but I finished it in about 2 weeks, dammit! (And G will be thrilled to have a scarf of her own after seeing Daddy make one for Mommy).
My next goal is a watch cap - still debating on whether to use circular needles then double-pointed or to go with the straight needles with a bit of Kitchener and then seaming it together... I have some really nice looking Lion Brand Wool-Ease that is a navy-blue/green mottled pattern that I've wanted to do something neat with...

Great job! My daughter is two (her birthday was yesterday) and obviously isn't particularly thankful for what I knit her, but it is fun to see her in the finished projects.
As for the hat -- I'm an odd duck, I suppose. But my suggest would be to use Double Pointed Needles all the way through. I just don't get starting on circular needles and switching -- I like DPNs and find it just as easy and effective to use them the whole way.

You spent two weeks to make something for your daughter - that's the important part. Hope she loves it (as I am sure she will)

I'm sure your daughter will treasure her scarf. And I love garter stitch -- keep up the good work.
