I saw the new year in and then some: Knitted until 6 am...Thank goodness for Toby Stephens in Jane Eyre on PBS...
I am "this close" to finishing a "reimagined" sweater: It's a brushed Peruvian wool raglan pullover. Kind of scratchy (there was a lot of debris in the handspun wool... I spent a day picking it out). It fitted badly, but something about it's ruggedness really appealed to me, AND the fact that the yarn is kind of bulletproof: Not the usual cheap Peruvian sweater that falls apart as soon as you look at it.
I've steaked the front, put in a zip, opened up the armpits and put in gussets, removed the collar and put in a hoodie, put in a blind hemline (my trademark... no visible ribbing but nice and fitted at the bottom).
I will probably put in a thin fleece lining and use it as a prototype for a line of knitted fall jackets. I TOTALLY love it.
Pictures to soon follow.

Good Lord - wouldn't it have been easier to just knit the damn thing from scratch?
I didn't even come close to seeing in the New Year - went to bed early - slept late.

It's going to be a prototype for some jackets I'm designing for a fall/winter 08 collection. I'm really psyched. It looks and feels GREAT!
I like trying out my ideas by reworking/tailoring garments I've found at thriftstores...It saves time and materials...Then, if I like how the idea turns out, I write up a pattern and go from there...
Makes sense to me! MMario

I've been sick, and the medicine I'm taking knocks me out. The kids woke me up at 2 minutes to midnight. I stayed awake long enough to say yay. and went right back to bed.

Bob,
What is a blind hemline?

You know how when you put ribbing at the bottom of a garment, it snugs up to the body, making the rest of the fabric above it blouse out?
A blind hemline or ribbing, is a cuff that's designed to be turned under, so it still snugs to the body and blocks drafts, but leaves a clean hem edge in the mainbody fabric. I'll post a detail picture when the garment is done.
