I dipped into my oddballs bag and knit up this version of the 70's stocking cap. I used remnants of some Aussiewool yarn. I made it up as I knit, so there is no pattern. I needed a shot of bright color after my last project. I am presently awaiting delivery of some knitpicks yarn for my next sweater- I'm taking a break from the spinning for a bit. Also while waiting I am going to look into magic loop as small diameter round knitting has become my bete noir (sp?).

Love the colours. How can
Love the colours. How can anyone not smile to see such a hat passing them on the street? What weight of wool and needle size did you use, Albert? And, I take it from your previous comments that it is knit flat and seamed? Great hat though. How long is it? You should next do one a metre long at least. :-) (Get him, giving other people more knitting projects to do! lol)
Alan, the yarn is kniting
Alan, the yarn is kniting worsted weight and the needles are U.S. size 8. I knit this hat in the round starting with a circ and ending with three dpn's.

Linux: because a PC is a terrible thing to waste
It's really not as difficult
It's really not as difficult as you might think. I'd suggest practicing with two-handed knitting for two color knitting. It is awkward for a while, but once you get the hang of it your possibilities open up.
You inspired me and I just
You inspired me and I just started my first attempt at Intarsia. In the round.

I have read that intarsia
I have read that intarsia can be done in the round, but I have not tried it. Please let us all know about your experience, I am very interested in this idea.
Yeah I've read several
Yeah I've read several articles about doing it in the round but after a few rows have already changed my mind, frogged it, and switched to flat. I have to learn to seam some time LOL
Best to learn to do the Intarsia correctly first, and then adapt it to in the round.

That is an awesome looking hat! A great stash buster too, use up all those odd bits and balls that we insist on hanging on to.
I use magic loop for all of my sock knitting. I love it! When I was shown how to do it, it actually took longer to cast on the stitches than it did to pick up how to do the technique. I rarely use DPNs now.
Whoever wears that will
Whoever wears that will really enjoy it! And as for the envy from any passer by who sees it...

That is amazing. I just knit
That is amazing.
I just knit a pair of armwarmers and used magic loop for one of them. It was nice not to have to deal with all the points on the DPNs, but I knit really tightly and for some reason I had more trouble with sliding things along using magic loop than I do when I knit larger things in the round on circs. I preferred the DPNs which I was really not expecting. I also use a denise st of circs and they aren't ideal for magic loop since the cable is thinker than some and has more memory. If you take your knitting around with you though, magic loop is great for keeping all your stitches without needing six million little point protectors.
Sounds like what is
Sounds like what is happening is you're pulling so tight that your stitches are snug on the cable, which of course makes them even tighter on the needle. Don't know what to suggest to help other than trying to loosen up, which I know can be difficult if you are just a tight knitter.
I always use friction to warm the needle cable which helps get rid of some of the curl to it. Just run the cable in the bend of your leg (while wearing long pants or you'll get on heck of a brush burn). Then hold it out straight so it cools. I find it helps get rid of the tight curl to the cable.
That is so cute!

Albert, That's so great! So great to come up with something without a pattern. 100% inspiration and it looks great.
