Yikes! Fibre Queen

I have casually mentioned lately in the hearing of my partner that I would like to learn to spin. Well, I just opened my Christmas presents and I am still in shock. There was apparently in a nearby village to ours, an elderly lady who spun and weaved (wove??) who died in the last year. Her daughter wanted to sell her equipment but only to someone who would use it. Somehow my partner got wind of this and went to see her and bought a whole bunch of stuff that I dont know how to use at all. LOL. There is a small folding 20" floor loom, fittings from LeClerc, with a raddle etc. 27" tall. It folds for easy travel.

The knockout though, is an old Quebec spinning wheel from about 1880. In excellent working condition (according to a spinner/weaver who went with him) although apparently it needs leathers. It is so beautiful, but now I guess I am going to have to learn all about it. I will try to post a picture as soon as I figure out my camera etc. There are a couple of sets of carders, one very old and one newer. She also threw in a Yarn ball winder which I wanted to get to go with the new Swift I recently bought. I confess I am a bit overwhelmed and unsure how to proceed although I have been given the name of a woman who will come over and help me with it all, as well as the local spinning, weaving guild. I also need to go over to the womans's house because there is a lot of stuff my partner did not know if I needed or wanted, and I dont even know what most of them are. According to the list there are shuttles, and heddle makers, and sets of treadles and a wall mounted warping reel with movable pegs etc. etc. I feel completely intimidated I have to admit. LOL. I just hope I can figure it all out eventually. But the wheel certainly looks beautiful by the fireplace, even if I never manage to spin on it. Please encourge me, I will need it. :-)

Congrats! Get yourself some

Congrats! Get yourself some fleece and go to town. You should find lots how-to info about spinning on the web. Don't put the wheel too close to the fireplace if you are running a fire- the heat may do funky things to the old wood of the wheel.
