Sshhh! It's almost 3:30 A.M.

Everyone is asleep. I have been studying all weekend for an exam on Monday. The agreement was that I would not knit until after the exam... or else I just wouldn't study, I'd fail the test, risk losing my job and then who would pay for all this yarn? (Notice I am not worried about actual BILLS... just my steady supply of yarn!!) Finally, around 10 p.m. I nodded off, nose first in "ECG Interpretation & Treatment"... **yawn**

I dreamed about flying to New York in my hotel room, seeing Charlie Sheen in restraints biting a towel while being wheeled off the plane on a gurney (I think he was drunk)... and Marie Osmond was sitting in the airport/hotel lobby so I told her about my co-workers loving her show and the unfair review she got in the paper. All the while, I was knitting. Yup, knitting! I got it bad, guys. As Patchworkjester commented on the phone this afternoon when I begged off a knit gathering in order to study, I have no "balance"!

So despite NOT KNITTING this weekend so that I could study for my exam (which is in a scant 5 hours time)... I decided that I could no longer go another minute without trying the IRISH HIKING SCARF that one of you good men posted on recently. I had some Lion Brand Wool Ease "Thick & Quick" lying around so why not try for an quick fix?

The pattern is very easy to negotiate. Only referring to it on a casual basis as it is basically only 3 rows of different knitting configuration done is a logical order. Simple. Cabling is not bad at all.

My first attempt, pictured here in "402 Wheat", is beautiful but quite misguided. The pattern called for a US10 needle...the yarn suggests using a US13... so brillant me compromises and uses a set of US11... on a thicker yarn! This is going to be one heavy duty scarf! The cabling is a bit dense due to the tightness of the knitting, but again... it is so beautiful. I got over my beginners attachment to bamboo needles and am using a set of aluminums I was given by my Mother-In-Law. That is making the tight knitting managable.

This is going to be a very large scarf so I eliminated one of the cables from the pattern and using size US15 needles, I jumped into doing a second Irish Hiking Scarf in "149 Charcoal". Wow, this is a QUICK KNIT! I am loving the texture of the pattern on the monochrome Charcoal. So beautiful. I attached a pic of it here as well.

"Hi, my name is Bill and I am a Knit-A-Holic"
"Hi Bill"
"Hi everybody. I am not like you people... well, maybe, I don't know. I do have 5 projects currently on needles and another 3 waiting, yarn at the ready... and I am taking wool spinning classes. Maybe I am a Knit-A-Holic... but... I can control it? Really. I can. But I know that I can't NOT knit. That is just crazy talk. NOT KNIT?? I may have had my first lesson the beginning of September but it feels like it has always been a part of me. Lying dormant, like some alien being inside me, just waiting for the right time to pop out of my chest like some crazed John Hurt..."
"Bill?"
"Yes...?"
"Shut up. Go study. Pass your exam. Then knit."
"Oh. Okay."

WOO-HOO!! Out of 85

WOO-HOO!! Out of 85 questions on the exam... there were 3 that kind of stumped me. Not too shabby. Apparently attending to the details of life outside of knitting is sometimes an appropriate activity.

PORN SPAM!

That said, hi Bill, my name is Raven. I am a knit aholic. I currently have 8 projects on the sticks and another 13 waiting, yarn at the ready. I have a spinning wheel and at last cound about 15 lbs of roving to be spun. Grab your knitting, I have some wonderful carrot cake my son made, a fresh pot of coffee and some comfortable chairs. I heard there was a cure, but I'm really not interested in it.
