Beginner Spinning Yarn

Which way would be alot easier for someone to learn how to spin yarn? Will it be drop spinning or on a spinning wheel.

Everyone I talked to

Everyone I talked to suggested learning on the drop spindle first. So of course I went right for the wheel. I love my wheel and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've tried the drop spindle but I just can't get the hang of it.

Spinning on a drop spindle

Spinning on a drop spindle is much cheaper, but it's a little basic for me. I started out on a used Ashford traditional wheel. Our local fiber store rents spinning wheels, usually in conjunction with but not limited to spinning lessons. If you have no experience spinning, you might find it frustrating at first, but once you get it down it's addictive. Good luck!

In my opinion, I like

In my opinion, I like spinning with a wheel better. For me it is faster and I feel some sort of connection with the past.

If one does not have a wheel, they can be pricey. I considered it an "investment." I personally feel it is best to get a good quality one that will last for decades.

I did start with a drop spindle and it was good too but my preference now is the wheel. I also enjoy hand carding (which can be used with either one).

Spinning and carding are relaxing things for me as well as knitting. You may be best off trying the drop spindle to see if you even like the idea of spinning. Ebay has them cheap. You may even prefer it to a wheel!
