ALMOST FO - Desert Sun

MMario's picture

It still needs blocking - I don't think I'll get that done tonight, or even tomorrow - maybe I'll block it over the weekend.

Jaggerspun wool 2/8 in heather bayberry. Knit on US 8 needles. The pattern is Desert Sun from GoddessKnits - with some variations of my own.

Cool work!

Just curious- what is the hour count?
Ballparking, it looks like a kilohour type project.

The edge took about 10 hours

The edge took about 10 hours of knitting - the shawl body maybe as high as 70 hours - but I doubt it. Probably closer to 55 or 60.
Done primarily on coffee hours and lunch breaks - a few evening sessions.

Now if I used the miniscule needles some people insist on using I'd have had to knit another 50 rows or so - and that would have added 15 hours or so.

Another fabulous piece of work, and I can't wait to see it blocked. Sometimes I look at your work and wonder if I have the skill to do lace work. I am most envious.

Lace is just knitting with

Lace is just knitting with holes. Colourwork is much more complicated, and so is cabling!

Stunning, Mario. Can't wait

Stunning, Mario. Can't wait to see it blocked. Where do you get Jaggerspun? Do you buy it online or from a store? I looked on the jaggerspun.com site and only saw worsted weight yarn and no order form or prices. I also looked at sarahsyarns.com and found that a bit confusing since I don't know what is meant by 2/8, 2/18 and 2/20 yarns. I saw a yarn called The Main Line. Is that the yarn you used? As opposed to the Zephyr listed on the page?

MMario's picture

yup -

yup - Sarahsyarns.
roughly:
2/8 would be fingering weight
3/8 sport weight
2/18 and 2/20 are lace weights - with the 2/20 being finer
2/24 is getting closer to "gossamer" it is at the fine end of lace-weight - Sarahsyarns has a merino superwash in 2/24 that I've used.

As I've said - you really can't beat the prices for the coned yarns - especially when buying 4 or more.

They sent me colour cards for all the jaggerrspun with my first order too, freebies!

Another beautiful work of art. I admire your talent. I have bought blends but I really like the pure wool. I find the difference is so evident after the piece is blocked.

That is awesome! The way everything flows from the center is lovely.

The jaggerspun is lovely to work with. If I can't have my KidSilk Crack I'll take Jaggerspun. I prefer their wools to the Zephyr though, even if the Zephyr is luxurious, I think the wools give you more bang for the buck.
