Just finished a swatch of a pattern from Heirloom Knitting by Sharon Miller. The yarn is cashmere/merino laceweight (so soft) from ColourMart UK, and the needle was 3mm. I think it is destined to become the design for a scarf. The yarn colour is darker than in the photo.

Really, lace isn't that

Really, lace isn't that difficult. Just find a simpler pattern you like and give it a go. It's just really knitting and counting. If you can knit, purl, yarn over and decrease, you can make amazing lace. It might only look difficult. I'm sure there are some difficult lace stitch patterns somewhere. Just don't do those ... yet.

Beautiful work and pattern. I don't know the book. Is it a book of lace stitches or a book of patterns for thing like scarves, shawls, etc.?
