Change Sleeve to knit in round

krooks's picture

Need a little help. Working on a sleeve, pattern calls to knit flat and seam. I would prefer to knit in round, so I only have to seam at shoulder. Pattern is knit 30 rows. Would this change to knit 1 row, purl 1 row?

By knitting in the round,

By knitting in the round, you would just knit every round, knit, knit, knit, knit, etc. That would get you that nice stocking stitch for a regular sleeve.

If you want a garter stitch, THEN you knit one row and purl the next.

...basically, if the flat, two-needle pattern says to knit one row and purl back, etc., all you need to do in the round is cast on and knit 'round and 'round.

2 needle pattern is - knit

2 needle pattern is - knit 30 rows. So to knit in round pattern becomes - knit 1 row, purl 1 row. That's what I thought it would be. Thanks

a) he says the pattern is

a) he says the pattern is written for knit flat and seam

b) pattern calls for "Knit 30 rows"

if you *change* the method to circular knitting instead of back and forth and *knit* 30 rounds you will indeed get stockinette.

However - 30 rows knit in flat back and forth would give garter, and is what the pattern calls for.

So you have to alternate knit and purl rounds in the circular knitting to achieve the result of all knit when flat.

or maybe I am just plain crazy.

well - if the pattern calls

well - if the pattern calls for knitting the sleeve flat, knit 30 rows, (garter stitch) then in the round you would have to alternate knit and purl rows to get the garter, yes?

Uh, Mario, are you sure? I

Uh,
Mario, are you sure? I think he's suggesting making a tube for his sleeve and then seaming it onto the body. If that's so, he'd just knit the tube. Thoughts?
