Wires

I was interested to read gryphon00's entry about his new frame and wires. Does anyone know if it is possible to make blocking wires? I'm thinking some sort of steel or stainless steel wire cut to appropriate lengths and the ends would need to be smoothed. I read about a man who made his own steel needles, so I suppose finding the suitable wire would be the way to start. Any ideas?

You can use stainless steel

You can use stainless steel welding wires, but you need to be sure that they are "resin-free" Meaning their is no greasy residue on the wires. Look up welding supplies in your local phone directory and you should find someone that can help you. Don't try Home Depot, they don't carry welding wires.

I once read where a woman

I once read where a woman used the wires that come with the little orange flags that are used in construction sites. She said she bought them at one of the big box home improvement stores. She just cut the orange flag off their wires. She said they worked great. But I haven't tried it.

Hey Kerry. I did read

Hey Kerry. I did read somewhere on the net that you can use stainless steel welding wire cut to various lengths as blocking wires and that it works pretty well. I know nothing about welding wire and have no idea what kind of flexibility or rigidity it has. I'll see if I can dig up the post again and put a link here.

Edit: Ok.. I found lots of references when I Googled "blocking wires" and "welding wire". Out of the ones I glanced thru, this is probably the most informative...

Go there and search the page for "welding" to see the comment.
