I've started "Helga" the second in a four part series of shawls I'm designing with Harry Potter/Hogwarts as inspiration. The first shawl "Godric" and what I've written up on "Helga" are over here
This one is simple, Faroese in style, and mainly designed to be nearly mindless knitting to give me a change from other knitting I am doing. Just enough design in it to keep it from being totally boring. I'm looking forward to the titillating anticipation as the rows go from almost 400 stitches down to 23 stitches.
By that time I may have figured out how to finish the neck band....

I'm under 200 stitches per row now, have a major decrease on the next row to be knit. Have to remember to take the camara to work where I may be able to get a picture - light isn't right when I'm at home to do so.
I've switched from the 60 inch needle to a 24 inch - it's a little crowded at the moment (the next row or two should take care of that) but better then fighting the excess needle flopping around.

have to love decreasing
have to love decreasing rows. I've done just about 20% of the *number* or rows; but about 38% of the total shawl. the next 30 rows will make those figures 40% and 65%!
The *last* 30 rows will be only 4% of the shawl total. better then the circular shawls where 25 to 50% of the stitches can be in the edgeing!

Helga isn't quite ready to
Helga isn't quite ready to have her photo shot; but the lace band which will form the two diagonal sides is done; and two reps of the (same) pattern in the gusset.
It may not be traditional - but I prefer the four rows of ribbing I did to start this to the more conventional garter stitch edge.
