Want bulky lace shawl pattern

Does anyone have a favorite bulky yarn lace-type shawl pattern? I'd like to knit a shawl for my 87 year old mother in the coming months.

yes - those would both be good for stoles - as is the pattern I just posted.

The other possibility is that you can do a triangular - adding pattern repeats as your go.

The basic top down triangle would be:

{border stitches) increase, (panel) increase, center stitch, increase, (panel) increase, border stitches.

alternating with a "plain" row - no increases.

by "panel" I mean the repeats of the lace pattern. Eventually you will have enough "spare" stitches on either side of the panel to add another lace repeat there. So you do. and as the shawl grows, you do it again.

Does that make any sense?

You can also do a tip up version where you do the increases at either end of alternate rows o or at ONE end of every row.

see the threads here - both the patterns that mike give should work well with bulky.

Just remember - especially with bulky yarn - that you've got to go up in needle size to get a lacier look.

I saw Mike's lace patterns. They look like they'd be great. But how do I turn that pattern into a shawl? Or would I use the pattern to create a large rectangular stole rather than a triangle shape? Actually, maybe a rectangular stole would be better for her.

Please read that thread that Mario! Mario! Mario! gave you. There are dimensions given for the rectangular configuration.

There *is* a way to do a triangular version of both those patterns but, I think for now you'd better stick with the rectangular. It's a bit dodgy when you start converting vertical patterns into a graduated equilateral triangle.
